Safety & Emergencies

  • A First Aid Kit and Stop the Bleed Kit are located on the shelves behind the front desk.

  • For medical emergencies or situations requiring police, call 911 immediately.

  • To assure that CHTL tools are used safely, volunteers should engage in friendly dialog with members about their experience with the tools they’re about to use, especially large power tools.

    • Most of the equipment in the shop work area have QR codes, allowing instant smartphone access to safety information about the tool.
  • Volunteers should remind members using the workshop to wear eye and ear protection, remove loose fitting clothing and accessories, tie up long hair, as well as utilize gloves and other safety gear as appropriate.

  • CHTL and its volunteers are insured by its parent organization, Sustainable Capitol Hill.
