Buying Filament

For general use, we prefer to only supply PLA filament as it’s easy to print and good enough for most purposes. Patrons are welcome to supply their own filament if they need something more specialized.

• Bambu Lab filaments have RFID tags that allow the multi-material system (AMS) attached to the printer to automatically read their type and set the configuration correctly. They are frequently on-sale and offer bulk discounts, so are a good option when purchasing a large re-supply of filament. They also have reusable spools so you can purchase a “refill” and put it back on spools that we already have. See here (scroll down) for instructions on how to put a refill filament on an old spool.
• Polymaker is a good option if you need filament faster because they ship via Amazon, but do not have the RFID reading capability so you will need to manually enter the filament type.
