Membership & Fees
Membership
Patrons must be 18 years of age or older to join the library and borrow tools after creating a MyTurn account. capitolhill.myturn.com
In the process of creating an account, they will fill out a liability waiver.
New members will be asked to show ID, such as a driver’s license, to confirm they are old enough.
- There is a flag in MyTurn on new accounts that have not had their age verified.
- It’s OK if the member’s preferred name doesn’t match their ID.
Membership is good for one year and can be renewed. Each year a member uses the library, staff will invite the member to make a donation of any amount.
The current membership tier breakdown is:
- Sustaining Member ($120 yearly)
- Regular Member ($35 yearly)
- Monthly Member ($5 a month): great for people who are curious about the library but aren’t sure if they would like to become a member
- Flexible (whatever yearly, including free):
We will not turn anyone away if they are unable to make a donation.
There are no overdue item charges.
Financial Donations
Member donations may be accepted as cash, credit card, PayPal or check (to Sustainable Capitol Hill).
A cash donation jar is kept on the front desk during open hours and stored under the desk at the end of shifts.
Credit card donations/payments are processed with the handheld device on the right side of the front desktop. It is always plugged in, so it should be fully charged.
Don’t process payments for less than $5 due to processing costs. If the member doesn’t have cash for that amount, tell them to pay the next time they come in.
Process for taking credit card payments:
- Enter the PIN for the smartphone (1552, the library’s street address).
- Open the Zettle app.
- Enter the payment amount, and hit the confirm button.
- If the member wants a receipt, hand them the smartphone so they can choose how to receive it.
- PayPal and Cashapp payments can be initiated using the QR codes taped to the front desk, although these are rarely used.
